Homemade All Purpose Cleaner

Homemade all purpose cleaner?  Cleaners in general ?  Wel…I have a confession, a deep dark confession.  Are you ready? Deep breathe…I hate to clean.  Not, I don’t like to clean, but I truly hate to clean.  See, I would rather cook for 30 with a 2 hour notice than clean anything, ever. There, I said it out loud and now everybody knows.  I feel better already.  Unfortunately, I have to clean, especially with 1 husband, 4 kids and a very large, slobbery English Mastiff hanging around the house.  No biggie, you say?  Everyone has to clean?  They keep the Windex under the cupboard with the multi surface cleaner and clean up when necessary and move on?  Easy?  Hmmm…if only I made my life that uncomplicated.

Another confession.  Apparently I feel the need to make – with my own 2 hands – pretty much anything and everything I can.  Ughhhh, it’s becoming an issue.  Dog costume? No problem!  Pooh Bear Spa cake by tomorrow? No problem! Out of mayonnaise? No worries mommy will make some!  How much cheese do they need and by when? Sure.  Definitely an issue. If it can be made, I’m automatically inclined to make it. So when it came to cleaning (ughh) I, of course, felt compelled to examine, deconstruct and recreate some basic household cleaners using what I already had around the house.  And you know what? They turned out to be far more effective and way cheaper than most products I can go buy.  No lie.

So the rule around here is, if I know, you’ll know.  I am sharing with you my homemade all purpose cleaner that I’ve come to love.  I keep it in spray bottle and it cleans up surfaces all over the place – and well.  And what inclined me to share is how wonderfully it works on all surfaces, but it absolutely rocks as a  stainless steel cleaner.  I’ve purchased stainless steel cleaners, I’ve made stainless steel cleaners, but until recently I didn’t know that the best stainless steel cleaner was the all purpose cleaner I made and had been using on everything in my kitchen except stainless steel!

I discovered this when I was cleaning my kitchen countertops,  looked down and saw all  the dog slobber on my dishwasher.  Being lazy and not wanting to go get the assigned cleaner, I sprayed some of this cleaner on my dishwasher and wiped it down with a cloth.  To my surprise it cleaned the stainless better than the store-bought cleaner I had used for years and left no streaks.  Go figure?  You have to humor me and make this.  Try it and let me know if I’m crazy or if it really does work for you like it works for me.  I’ll stop chirping in your ear now and as always, happy creating!
